From the foreword:
I first met Kim almost a decade ago, when I launched the Queer Sacramento Authors Collective with two local author friends. Kim soon joined—and even though it was a little bit of a stretch to include her then-hometown of Turlock, about 90 miles south of Sacramento, in a Sac area writer’s group, we were thrilled to have her.
We’ve since become fast friends, with her attending many of our local QSAC events, and sharing with each other the trials and tribulations of being an author.
We’d discussed writing something together for a couple years when the idea for The Office of the Lost came up. Writing with another author is fraught with danger—if the authors are not compatible and respectful of one another, it can rapidly degenerate into a very unpleasant experience.
Luckily for us, we worked seamlessly together. We fleshed out the main plot of the book, and the we alternated chapters. I wrote from Crispin’s point of view—a finicky everything-always-has-to-be-perfect fae whose job it is to put everything back in order. Kim wrote Leopold, a wild-bundle-of-chaos human going absolutely nowhere in life.
And something magical was born.
I hope you enjoy this frothy, romantic, fantastical combination of our talents. If you do, we’ll be back for more with book two.
