Review: The Young Protectors: Engaging the Enemy, by Alex Woolfson

The Young Protectors

OK, I just finished my second Christmas present – another graphic novel from Alex Woolfson, this one illustrated by the talented Adam DeKraker. And I loved it! But I’m going to level the same complaint against Alex that I have often gotten myself for my novellas. It’s not long enough. Now don’t get me wrong. This is a good thing. The main story kept me engaged right through, and I was thrilled with the relationship between the two characters. My anticipation was definitely whetted. Without giving spoilers, it’s hot hot hot. And it’s nice to see such an unapologetically gay … Read more

Point of View: My Writing Plans For 2016

Scott

Hey all, Last week I reviewed my writing year in 2015. I thought I’d flip things around this week and look ahead to my writing plans for 2016. So here are some of the things I hope to accomplish: 1) Publish My First Novel: Or at least get it scheduled. Those who know me well know that I wrote my first novel in my early twenties, like twenty five years ago (I know, right?). But it never went anywhere – it was roundly rejected by ten mainstream publishers. In my more recent writing life, I’ve stuck exclusively to short stories … Read more

Review: Artifice, by Alex Woolfson

Now I see what all the fuss is about. I just finished reading the graphic novel Artifice, by Alex Woolfson (illustrations by Winona Nelson). When we planned to attend Rainbow Con, Angel was all excited about the featured guest, some guy I’d never heard of. Turns out Alex had the table across from QSF in the dealer room – he’s a great, sweet, personable guy. I’m sorry it took me so long to review this, Alex! I planned to buy it at RC, but Mark dissuaded me – apparently because he wanted to surprise me for Christmas with a signed … Read more

Point of View: What I’m Thankful For in 2015

Santa Scott

Hey all, It’s almost the end of the year, and I find myself getting a little somber and reflective. It’s been a good year–a year of changes, some of them difficult, and some of them extremely rewarding. Angel and I have started referring to it as “the year of the learning curve”. So for today’s Point of View column, I thought I would list some of the people and things from 2015 that I am thankful for. Please keep in mind that this is an incomplete list. I have many more blessings than I have time to recount in print. … Read more

Author Spotlight: S.A. Collins

SA Collins

Welcome to my weekly Author Spotlight. I’ve asked a bunch of my author friends to answer a set of interview questions, and to share their latest work. Today, S.A. Collins – S.A. Collins, or Baz to his writing friends, is kind of a force of nature. I met Baz on Facebook, and Mark and I helped him (with substantial help from our Italian friends Marco and Fabry) on some Italian in his novel Angels of March Volume 1. Baz is also one of the principals at the WROTE (Written on the Edge) podcast, which interviews queer and queer friendly authors … Read more

Point of View: Writing Serial Fiction

River City

About five months ago, I was at Rainbow Con, and attended a session with Alex Woolfson and Adam DeKraker of “The Young Protectors” fame. The Young Guardians, for those who aren’t familiar with it, is an LGBT superheroes comic. Alex and Adam put together a new page once a week and post it for free on Alex’s site: The Young Protectors: Engaging The Enemy Title and Credits It’s a great concept – you get to read the whole thing for free, and then you get hooked and want a copy for yourself, which they will happily supply. It got me … Read more
