Great new Dropnauts review!

Dropnauts review Anna Butler

The thing I always know I’m going to enjoy with any Scott Coatsworth novel is the worldbuilding because (i) it is my JAM and (ii) Scott is very good at it. Dropnauts is no exception. This is a well-realised, fully-fleshed world he has created here, of a destroyed Earth, thought unpopulated, and the attempt to reclaim and recolonise it from the Lunar colonies that are humanity’s last home. The devil’s in the details, and I just loved the way Scott builds pictures of Martinez base, and the Lunar city Redemption – particularly the latter… …the central themes of redemption and renewal shine … Read more

THE WEEKLY FIX: Dropnauts

Dropnauts

Dropnauts is arriving in just two more weeks, so I thought I’d tease you a bit with another excerpt. 🙂 This one starts a century after The Stark Divide, and reveals what happened back on Earth. This week, Ally and Aidan: Ally and Aidan followed the yellow stripes of the old, crumbling two-lane highway through what had once been the Central Valley of California. Aidan imagined it full of cars, commuters rushing back and forth across the now-empty valley. The land here was mostly open, with small stands of the sky trees here and there. Grass had taken over the … Read more

Dropnauts is arriving in just two more weeks, so I thought I’d tease you a bit with another excerpt. 🙂 This one starts a century after The Stark Divide, and reveals what happened back on Earth. This week, Chen Tien, the medic: Her family was been enjoying a picnic on the Chinese side of Riverside Park. Tai had climbed up onto the bright red rail of the bridge. She perched on top, watching the clear water flow over the round pebbles below. It glistened and sparkled, murmuring its secrets to her. “Tai, get down from there!” Her mother’s strong arms … Read more

POINT OF VIEW: Dropnauts – Making the Perfect Cover

Dropnauts cover wrap

Designing a cover is hard. My first such effort, years ago, was limited by my skill at manipulating things in Photoshop, as well as my lack of expertise in finding good images to work with. The latter still takes me the longest – I have to really consider the story as a whole and think about what might represent it. And then I have to find it. That often takes hours and hours, paging through stock photo sites and following “More Images Like This” rabbit holes when I see something I like that’s not quite right. I’ll often have ten … Read more
